Confirmation

This moment confirms a disciple’s initiation into the church and strengthens them for the work of discipleship. Realizing the call, as disciples, to take Jesus out into the world they explore the gifts God has given them and the ways we can serve our fellow man and step out into the world in faith as active members of the church. Parents are required to attend a meeting and a separate retreat with their child to ponder the signs and symbols of confirmation and the gifts of the Holy Spirit. The family will share a service experience and conclude that day with a social gathering and spiritual reflection. Finally, the children will attend a prayerful rehearsal focusing on the actual celebration along with their sponsor. The bishop, as ordinary minister of the sacrament, will confer the sacrament and determine the parish where confirmation will be celebrated.

The diocese also has official qualifications for confirmation sponsors, as well as several guidelines and/or recommendations.
